Teaching in the Age of the Internet

The Maryland State Archives offers the following proposals for successfully teaching people at all levels of education and interest how to use the technology of the information highway. These proposals are meant to be complimentary to and an extension of the Distance Learning Classroom which is designed for large lecture instruction and interactive communication among large audiences.

The Maryland State Archives' electronic classroom focuses attention on how to learn and how to teach in small units, employing the seminar methods that are more effective when teaching beyond the level of introductory lectures. The interactive classroom is also designed to help "cyberphobic" people, including teachers and employees in the public and private sectors, overcome their fear of and resistance to working in the electronic environment by giving them individual, hands-on instruction and practice with the tools of the Internet.
