Notes:
1. Appointed jointly, giving Dent jurisdiction over the "upper Parts of Charles County," and Clarke jurisdiction of southern
Potomac. Dent assumed authority over the whole region in 1696. See Owings, p. 160.

2. After 1750, Chamberlaine was effectively stripped of his powers. He retained the position in name only, and was to turn all
proceeds of the office over to David Graham. Chamberlaine left the colony for England in 1754 to protest his demotion, but died
on the voyage. See Owings, p. 161.
