WASHINGTON COUNTY, MARYLAND

[County Seal, Washington County, Maryland] Origin: Washington County was created from Frederick County by resolve of the Constitutional Convention of 1776 on September 6, 1776, effective October 1, 1776. The County was named for George Washington (1732-1799), commander of the Continental forces during the Revolutionary War, and first president of the United States.
