Education & Outreach
The State Archives creates historical exhibits for display at its building, the Hall of Records in Annapolis, as well as exhibits for the Maryland State House and traveling exhibits. Currently showing at the Hall of Records are: Charting the Chesapeake, 1590-1990, and Providence Plantation, Anne Arundel County's First Settlement.
At the State House are exhibits relating to the history of the State House; Annapolis, the Capital; Maryland and the U.S. Constitution; as well as Portraits in the Governor's Reception Room. Also on display in the Maryland State House are many important portraits by Charles Willson Peale and others of early governors of Maryland and of significant events in Maryland and U.S. history. In the Rotunda of the State House for much of the year is the small ship the Maryland Federalist
Government House hosts changing exhibits, as well as the permanent collection of Portraits of First Ladies & Official Hostesses of Maryland from the state collection.
Traveling exhibits include Colonial Encounters in the Chesapeake: The Natural World of Native Americans, Europeans, and Africans, 1585-1800; and an exhibit relating to the Chesapeake Bay Agreement.
The Archives Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties list National Historic Places in Maryland. The Maryland Historical Trust carries out the survey of historic sites through contract with local jurisdictions. Properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places receive a degree of protection from federally licensed or funded projects.
