Summer Internship
Computer Science/Information Systems

Who:  High school, undergraduate or graduate level college students attending Maryland schools or Maryland residents attending out-of-state schools are eligible to apply.  The competitive selection process is based on an evaluation of the following application materials: 

What:  During the ten-week paid summer program, students will engage in a variety of activities related to the Information Technology Department of the Archives as DP Programming Interns.  The intern will be working under supervision of an IT manager.  Applicants familiar and/or knowledgeable with Windows and participate in the implementation, maintenance, and support of applications in the Windows platform.  Candidates should have the ability to develop and troubleshoot applications and problems. Computer Science or Information Management Systems student is preferred.  However any interest in History is appreciated.  Applicants should have experience with at least one of the following : Desktop application design/creation, or Dynamic web application design/creation ; and ability to problem solve and work in a team.  Experience with the following are of an advantage:  Coldfusion, .NET, HTML, PHP, Scripting development including PERL or Python, Microsoft Windows XP / 2000 Server, SAN, C, C++

Interns will receive an hourly wage, paid bi-weekly.  Hourly rates are based on education level:  high school at $8.52 per hour, undergraduate at $10.42 per hour, and graduate at $11.02 per hour.

When:  Wednesday, June 4 - Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Candidates will be notified of decisions on or before Monday, April 21, 2008.  It is not necessary to be a history major to participate in the program, and students of other disciplines are encouraged to apply.
