Summer Internship
Conservation and Preservation

Who:  High school, undergraduate or graduate level college students attending Maryland schools or Maryland residents attending out-of-state schools are eligible to apply.  The competitive selection process is based on an evaluation of the following application materials: 

What:  During the ten-week paid summer program, interns will engage in a variety of activities related to the conservation and preservation of the Archives' collections.  This work primarily involves rehousing and reshelving documents.  Excellent hand skills including the manipulation of three-dimensional objects, and attention to detail are essential.  (For example, if you have a talent for art, handicrafts, wood working, sewing, puzzles, etc., you have the necessary manual dexterity.)  Interns will receive an hourly wage, paid bi-weekly.  Hourly rates are based on education level:  high school at $8.52 per hour, undergraduate at $10.42 per hour, and graduate at $11.02 per hour.

When:  Wednesday, June 4 - Tuesday, August 12, 2008 

How:  Send all application materials to the address above (ATTN: Emily Oland Squires, Director of Research and Student Outreach).  Materials must be postmarked on or before Monday, March 31, 2008. Candidates will be notified of decisions on or before Monday, April 21, 2008.  It is not necessary to be a history major to participate in the program, and students of other disciplines are encouraged to apply.
