INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

ARCHIVAL MANAGEMENT, HISTORICAL RESEARCH, AND ELECTRONIC ARCHIVES


Who:  High school, undergraduate or graduate level college students attending Maryland institutions  OR Maryland residents attending out-of-state schools are eligible to apply. The competitive selection process is based on an evaluation of one or more the following application materials:

    • Maryland State Employment Application Form (call the Archives at (410) 260-6400
    • Academic transcripts
    • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member
    • A sample of the applicant's academic writing
What:  Interns will engage in a variety of activities related to processing, managing, and interpreting archival collections. Individual intern assignments will vary, but duties may include research, writing, web design, electronic imaging, computer programming, record stripping, and accessioning. The intern program includes a heavy focus on the application of computer technology to both the historical method and archival practice. Some assignments may require periodic off-site work.

When:  Volunteer or academic credit internships are ongoing throughout the school year and summer.  Please contact the Internship Coordinator at 410 260-6400 for specific details.

How:  Send all application materials to the address above (ATTN: Internship Coordinator).  Please include a letter of intent  and availability with each application.  It is not necessary to be a history major to participate in the program, and students of other disciplines are encouraged to apply.
