Book Binding in Early Maryland: Highlights from Willman Spawn Collection
Prominent Philadelphia bookbinder and historian, first came to the Maryland State Archives as a private researcher in 1963. His work helped to further the knowledge of early Maryland bookbinders, as well as those from Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware, and England. The collection of bindings and related materials was named in honor of the extensive research Mr. Spawn did with the records.

This exhibit was created and designed between 2010 and 2011 in part to meet matching requirements of a U.S. Department of Education Office of Post Secondary Education Grant to study the Underground Railroad in five counties of Maryland's Eastern Shore, including Dorchester, Caroline, Queen Anne's, Talbot and Kent.
