Biography:

On November 13, 1852, Charlotte Dodson, alias Mary, ran away from her owner Margaretta Dyer of Piscataway, Prince George's County, Maryland.  Margaretta Dyer placed advertisements requesting Dodson's return.  Dyer advertised for Dodson in the Daily National Intelligencer from November 22, 1852 to September 22, 1853. Dyer described Dodson as a 23-year old female, who "is low in stature, but well proportioned, of strong and healthy appearence, and of dark copper color".  Charlotte Dodson took with her several items of clothing and a pair of new shoes.  Margaretta Dyer also reported that Dodson had previously run away during the spring of that same year, but was captured and confined in prison in Washington, D.C. Dyer believed that Charlotte Dodson may have been hiding in Washington, D.C. where her mother, Kitty, owned by Mrs. Maria Dyer, resided.
