Biography:

Henry Fields successfully escaped slavery in Port Deposit, Cecil County, Maryland, in 1859 at the age of eighteen.  He fled from his cruel master, Washington Glasby, after the decision was made to sell him.  Though little information has been recovered regarding his life after his escape, Fields did reach Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was aided by individuals associated with the Underground Railroad.
