Biography:

Leeds Wright successfully escaped Kent County, Maryland with fellow slave Abram Tilison in 1857.  Wright's father, George, had already fled to Canada and Wright wanted to follow his father.  The rest of his family was "some 50 miles distant," leaving him no remaining ties to Kent County.  Wright was owned by Reverend John Wesley Pearson.  Though little has yet been recovered about his life after escape, Wright reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was aided there by individuals connected with the Underground Railroad.
