(Biographical Series)

Isaac a.k.a. Tom (b. circa 1837)
MSA SC 5496-1524
Fled from slavery, Somerset County, Maryland, 1854

Biography:

Issac ranaway from the schooner, Swan, at night. Other cases such as Isaac's suggest that Negroes would take advantage of opportunities when they were away from the plantation or owner's direct supervision to escape. The subscriber, Levi Howarth, also suspects that the young 17 year old may be found in Baltimore, "I will give the above reward if taken in the city."
