Hezekiah
MSA SC 5496-1520
Fled from slavery, Somerset County, Maryland, 1844

Biography:

Hezekiah and Charles apparently absconded after a 'Camp Meeting' they had attended at Deale's Island. Though no reason was given, the subscriber, Marcellus Jones, believed that the pair was in route for Baltimore. Fairly specific in recalling their physical dimensions, Jones additionally states about Hezekiah's demeanor, "(he) appears very good natured, and frequently laughs when spoken to." Was this Hezekiah's normal attitude or an expression of nervousness or innocence to calm his owner?
